Four decades on
Bliss Street
Faysal opened on Bliss Street beside the American University of Beirut, and has fed the neighbourhood ever since — students, taxi drivers, night-shift workers and families, at every hour of the day and night.
The menu grew into the sprawling list it is today: manakish, fatayer, arayes, sfiha, sambousek, the famous Special Faysal. But the dough is still rolled by hand, the za'atar still mixed in-house, and the cheese is still real.
It doesn't look like much, and there's barely room to sit — it's a takeaway corner at heart, now with delivery 24/24. But the fatayer are crunchy, the manakish generous, and the smell reaches you down the street.
